Station Founder and Advisor
Gabriel Urgoiti is a medical doctor working in the field of child health, child participation and health communication. As a clinician he worked at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of care for over 17 years. He was involved in the birth and growth of the community radio sector in Southern Africa as one of the founding members of Radio Zibonele and Bush Radio. He was a founding member of NPPHC Media Training Centre and its first director from 1994 to 1999. He has extensive experience in using child-centred methodologies and media as a vehicle for children to tell their stories.
Project Officer
Chelsey Daniels started at RX Radio as a Public Relations and Marketing Intern in 2020 as part of her 3rd year internship programme. She has gained some experience in writing, admin duties and fundraising. She obtained an Advanced Diploma in Public Relations and Communications from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in 2021. Since then, she has become the Project Officer for the station. Her job involves maintaining our good office space and she enjoys interacting with others and meeting new people.
Production Intern
As a Production Intern at RX Radio, Kyle assists the producers with various productions. He also works with the reporters and edits the content that they produce. After matriculating in 2016, he entered a scholarship programme through Bridges for music and was successful out of many entries. Kyle was the recipient of the Black Coffee Scholarship to study for a Higher Certificate in Sound Production at SAE Cape Town, which he obtained in 2019. He joined RX Radio in January 2020 and as he gains more experience, he is surely realising his dream of being a Radio Producer.
Content Producer
Chris Booth is a Rhodes Journalism and Media graduate who specialised in radio and holds a Master of Arts in Health Journalism. Child participation and advocacy is at the forefront of Chris’s work and he has honed a passion for children’s rights – particularly in relation to health and wellbeing. Chris joined the station at the end of 2017 as a volunteer and progressed through the RX Radio internship in 2018 to become a full producer in 2019. Working with children to help them share and express their stories has been one of the greatest experiences for Chris at the station.
Content Producer
Azande Sidyiyo is a Rhodes Journalism and Media graduate who specialises in radio and digital media. Having also studied Anthropology, she has a love for learning about people and an interest in learning more about the dynamics that make different communities function the way they do. After working on Campus Radio, she found her calling to be a Radio Producer as she enjoys making content and making people’s requests a reality. As a Radio Journalism Tutor and Radio Tech assistant she also found that she was able to teach and share her radio skills with keen young radio enthusiasts.
