Ahead of Saturday’s game in Cape Town, the Welsh Rugby team visited Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital on Wednesday the 13th of July 2022. Members of the team visited the wards of the hospital and made children smile while boosting the morale of the hospital staff.
Young Reporters Litha and Connor covered the event, and while we were not able to join the players in the wards, we were able to enjoy the celebratory feeling as they came out of the hospital to engage with more children and healthcare workers. Due to the craziness of their brief visit, we were unable to get an interview with one of the players, but Connor was able to chat to the British High Commissioner to South Africa Antony Phillipson about the visit and about how sport brings people together.
Take a listen to Litha and Connor talking about their experience as well as the interview with Antony:
The event was a truly exciting one and despite the Welsh Rugby team facing off against South Africa tomorrow, everyone’s mood was lifted by this special visit – showing just how much sport brings people from all walks of life together.
